Free movement on a big mat
Un grand tapis, deux objets à portée, et bébé qui bouge à son rythme pendant que tu regardes.
Step by step
- Pick a time when baby is fed and well-rested, and clear a large, firm mat.
- Dress them in comfy clothes (bare feet are best) and lay them on their back right in the center of the mat.
- Place 2 or 3 simple toys within reach or just slightly to the side—nothing more.
- Sit nearby where they can see you, completely available without your phone: your calm presence gives them the safety to explore.
- Do not roll them over or hand them toys, even if they grunt with effort: that struggle is where the real learning happens. Quietly cheer on their efforts.
- Wrap up before they get overtired, talk about what they did ("you rolled around so much today!"), and transition to quiet time.
What it builds
When babies are never placed in positions they cannot get into on their own, they master each milestone (rolling, crawling, sitting) entirely by themselves. Reaching milestones independently builds genuine, lifelong confidence.
