Exploratory Finger Painting

Deux noix de peinture et des mains qui plongent, sans rien à représenter.

Step by step

  1. Cover the table, lay out a large sheet of paper, slip on an old T-shirt, and get two primary colors of finger paint ready.
  2. Set the ground rule: paint stays on the paper (and hands!); keep a damp cloth within reach.
  3. Squeeze two dollops of paint onto the paper and let their hands dive right in, no instructions needed.
  4. Put their discoveries into words (“yellow and blue... make green!”) without nudging them to draw anything specific. If they hesitate to get messy, start with just one finger—the rest will follow.
  5. Switch up the movements: stamping palms, sliding fingers, and maybe trying sponges or bottle caps.
  6. Wash hands together, let the masterpiece dry, and hang it up at your child's eye level.

What it builds

With their hands right in the paint, your child feels, acts, and sees the result all at once: it is how they get comfortable with new textures and discover firsthand that mixing two colors creates a brand-new one.
