Cause-and-Effect Toys
Un jouet à mécanisme, une démonstration lente, et bébé qui cherche le déclic.
Step by step
- Pick just one cause-and-effect toy at a time (roly-poly, pull-string toy, or pop-up box).
- Sit your baby down comfortably with the toy right in front of them, clearing away all other distractions.
- Demonstrate how it works just once, moving slowly, without speaking during the action.
- Let them experiment without guiding their hand—trial and error is how they learn. If they get a little frustrated, wait a moment before stepping in.
- Put words to what just happened afterwards: "You pushed it... and it popped back up!"
- Tidy the toy away together and rotate it with others during the week to keep things fresh.
What it builds
Realising that their actions trigger a predictable result (I press, it rings) shows your baby they have power over their surroundings. That very confidence—"when I try, something happens"—is what sparks the joy of learning.
Materials
